The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) Commission is a new independent agency established to improve the quality and safety of NDIS supports and services. NDIS will provide about 460,000 Australians aged under 65, who have permanent and significant disability with funding for supports and services in their communities such as doctors, sporting clubs, support groups, libraries and schools.

  • 277,155 Australians are accessing the National Insurance Disability Scheme

  • 11,504 Children receiving support through the NDIS Early Childhood Early Intervention (ECEI) approach.

  • 85,489 Australians receiving supports for the first time.

The NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission (NDIS Commission) began operating in New South Wales and South Australia from 1 July 2018.

Key migration commencement dates are:

  • Vic, Qld, Tas, ACT, NT from 1 July 2019

  • WA from 1 December 2020.

Current quality and safeguards requirements for that state or territory will continue to apply until the NDIS Commission begins operating in a state or territory.
